i switched off uac, started ie as admin, added the sites to the trusted sites, opened port 80, changed the port in rss to 8080.... I found that SSRS was indeed installed by opening the Reporting Services Configuration Manager but I could not access the Report Manager home page which was at http://machinename/ReportServer_SQL2008R2.
