I decided to totally reformat that hard disk and reinstall Windows. Another message I've gotten is this: STATUS_CHECKED_FREE_MISMATCH, though I think I have now corrected this issue. Login now. Looking this up on the internet, I discovered that the usual cure for this problem is to reinstall the System Restore service.

I turn the computer on, and press F2 to enter the BIOS Settings. Trying to run it (in Services.msc) gives Error 5: Access is denied.
