And the Patriot stick was OK. Now, I had to do this becouse of a virus (?). I successfully reactivated by internet; not even a phone call required. Because you need to clear the HDD via a complete reformat, then try to install Windows.

Michael A. All permissions were set properly. You can use a virtual XP on a W10 computer to run any incompatible software. I think it was the laser failing in the old drive.

I never screw around with a balky drive, I just throw it away, and stuff in a new one. Login now. I have tried two XP CDs and two CD drives with the same result, and I got a new hard drive and still had these problems. Windows 10 will need certain drivers for USB etc, but the motherboard will have to be fairly modern for it to work fully. Sign in here. If you delete all the partitions, redo them in NTFS, do a full format, and try again with a new CD that should work.Michael A.

While copying the files, a message "cannot copy file" appears starting with the file "wpa.dbl" and reappears for every file after it. dont have floppy, remove cd? During the installation, from the cd, it tells me "setup cannot copy file [filename]". This is fine.

But a different file pops up instead.
