Doing a clean install of a laptop with 500mhz AMDk6 Compaq Presario, I am getting messings saying that it can't copy certain files on this install. Join Date: Nov 2002 Posts: 691 Windows XP setup heeeelp meeeee. If it comes down to really suspecting the RAM I'll get a couple of new sticks, they have a lifetime warranty. I don't know why it's so hard for you to believe.

I tried the "Retry" and it would sometimes work, but it would just come up with another file it couldn't copy in another second or so. Goes like clockwork until it begins copying files. The interesting thing I found is that some of these files were not found on any of the other PCs in my house. I am currently up and happy with my new SP3 legal copy. -not the one that gave me those problems.The Moral of the story: be weary of legitimate looking copies. On another successful installation attempt?did I say successful? ?.
Instead of criticizing, maybe you could give me a suggestion. The file Setup placed on your hard drive is not a valid Windows XP system image. I have tried two different Windows XP discs, and even tried copying all of those files onto a CD from another PC and trying to pull the files off the other But then I get the same error only with some other DLL file or ?exe?
I like to use NTFS whenever I can though. I would love to see someone find the answer to this as I have had a mirror image replica of the issue (only those two files) I have downloaded them and All I wanted was a quick and painless upgrade to the new OS free from confusing user interfaces, baffling error messages and corruption of my existing system.
