I never screw around with a balky drive, I just throw it away, and stuff in a new one. Why not read it up ? I suspected the XP disc, but it was kept in its sleeve, like new. I am seen in darkness and in light, What am I? This can be just a case of finding the right place in the bios, or swapping the drives over in the cable connections. Today I was loading XP Pro from a slipstreamed disk for dual boot with W7. and sure enough it was a case of bad memory.

Bottom line: I think if you see red, that's a bad thing. Windows 10 will need certain drivers for USB etc, but the motherboard will have to be fairly modern for it to work fully.
